Choose the best out of 5 types of hair transplants.

Updated: May 3, 2020

Why it’s important to choose and know  the techniques in hair transplant for the male pattern baldness or Androgenic Alopecia clients before they go for it, goes a long way for the best results they’re looking.

It’s always good to have some knowledge about the various techniques. So,client when goes for the hair transplant consultation with the Plastic surgeon to discuss and choose the best of the lot. All techniques don’t suit all clients. And the hair transplanter if not trained in all the techniques then may end up doing the same trained techniques to all clients.

The techniques can be chosen depending upon the available donor hair in the back of the scalp or available body hair. Larger donor areas the combination technique or FUE or FUT can be used. For the lesser hair in scalp then, both scalp and body hair from beard, chest and other parts of the body can be used.

Many of you might have seen the scars in the back of the scalp in people who have got hair transplanted , this was common in the earlier times. But still this is commonly done by non-Plastic surgeons, less trained or technicians or inexperienced personnel. The reason is it’s easier to harvest the FUT- strip from the back of scalp and they suture just like any other cut wounds. It ends up with bad wider scar. But yes, same cut wound would be closed with a specialised technique by a well trained hair transplant plastic surgeon to give a very thin line.

Best equipments make the more advanced techniques for reduced donor area scars. FUE - Extraction techniques causes reduced scars in the hands of hair transplant plastic surgeons. The punches earlier used were of larger diameter, but now with the smaller sized punches this scarring is reduced. Ask your hair transplanter to use the best possible smaller punches for good scars.

3. Combo Technique

If the larger area of male pattern baldness needs to be covered with hair follicles with good scalp donor hair, in a young adult or mid aged client then Combination technique with a small FUT- Strip technique or FUE- Extraction technique can be used together. But the cut wound should be closed with the specialised technique. This technique is not done by all the hair transplanter.

If the hair transplanter is not well experienced or trained in FUE, then during extraction of follicles during the hair transplant end up doing more damage to the follicles , which are more precious in Androgenic alopecia or male pattern baldness.

4. Ultra FUE

This is a highly skilled variant in FUE, where in the specific required hair is taken from the donor area for specific sites to be covered in male pattern baldness or for other deformities like eyebrows or moustache, beard creation is required and also One of the Criteria in correction of the  botched hair transplant procedure in male pattern baldness.

5. Robotic Hair transplant

Robotic hair transplant is another technique, where both man and machine work together. But the human error can cause damage at both the ends of procedure where in hair extraction and hair implantation is done.

All techniques of follicles harvesting will have to be segregated into single, double or triple hair in follicles and maintained in a specific temperature for all time till it’s implanted in the area of male pattern baldness. Otherwise the follicles might get damaged. Reducing the time from harvesting to implanting should be reduced as much as possible for good outcomes.

Overall, the techniques as I said earlier should be customised to individual depending upon the requirement of male pattern baldness to be covered and availability of donor hair in the scalp or hair elsewhere in the body. Aim should be to give the best possible results at both the donor and Recipient sites for the better outcomes. Choose wisely your hair transplanter and the technique in androgenic alopecia or male pattern baldness.
